About
Our Mission
The Lower Makefield Historical Society fosters an appreciation of the beauty and history of Lower Makefield Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. We foster an interest in and encourage the preservation of historic buildings, sites, and landscapes in Lower Makefield and the greater Bucks County areas. We promote, research, and publish information about local history and culture, and share our findings and collection of artifacts with the public.
A collection of historic findings are on display in the Lower Makefield Township Community Community Center, located at 1550 Oxford Valley Road, Yardley, PA 19067.
Questions About Historic Properties & Genealogy
We do not own or store historical documentation (such as deeds or birth/death/marriage certificates) about lands, buildings, or individuals in Lower Makefield or the surrounding area. Unfortunately, the Lower Makefield Historical Society is unable to answer these types of questions.
Here are some helpful resources.
If you have a question about historic properties, please start with the township offices.
If you have a question about civil certificates, please visit the Bucks County Prothonotary.
The Lower Makefield Township Historical Commission is a separate entity of the township that designates structures and buildings of historical significance for the purpose of recommending to the Board of Supervisors the creation of a zoning district for the preservation of historical structures and buildings.
The Bucks County Historical Society is the depository for many Bucks County government records dating from 1683. These records come from the offices of the Court of Quarter Sessions, Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans Court, Prothonotary and the County Commissioners. Please visit their website for information on researching these documents.
If you are researching your family history, the Bucks County Genealogical Society is a great resource.
